Early Life

Steven Patrik Josefsson Fragogiannis was born on the 22nd of November, 1982, in Athens, Greece.

He is the son of a Greek father and a Swedish mother.

Angello began as a scratch DJ at 12 years of age and was involved in many scratch competitions, combining hip-hop, breakbeats, and 1970s classics.

Career

Steve Angello started producing tracks under the name Who’s Who in 2001, and he often worked with Sebastian Ingrosso, a fellow Swedish DJ.

At the beginning of his career, Angello released his tracks through Subliminal, Cr2, and Refune while also producing for Interscope Records.

However, he also established his own label, Size Records, in 2003, which entered into a partnership with Astralwerks in 2023.

Through Size Records, Angello released his singles “Gypsy,” “Isabel,” and “Flonko,” as well as his remix of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams.”

A Budding Career

In 2006, Angello and Axwell created the alias Supermode, which they used to release the hit single “Tell Me Why.”

Following the success of this song, Angello’s first solo commercial hit came a year later on David Guetta’s “Baby When The Light.”

Angello was given credit for this song after producing it for Guetta’s third album, which quickly gained him recognition.

He saw more success in 2007 while collaborating with Sebastian Ingrosso on the song “Umbrella,” the first of many collaborations between these two.

After the new year, Angello released a remake of the 1990 song “Show Me Love,” which became a number-one hit on the UK Dance Charts.

Swedish House Mafia

Steve Angello, along with Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, formed the Swedish House Mafia in late 2008, releasing the songs “Get Dumb” and “Leave the World Behind.”

In 2010, Angello released his debut album with Swedish House Mafia, Until One, which ended up being certified platinum in Sweden and gold in the UK.

He followed this up with “One (Your Name)” featuring Pharrell Williams and “Miami 2 Ibiza” featuring Tinie Tempah, two successful singles.

Angello began working on Swedish House Mafia’s second studio album, Save The World, in 2011, and in the summer, they performed at Tomorrowland.

The following year, they performed at Tomorrowland for the third consecutive time and released their most successful single, “Don’t You Worry Child.”

Following the release of Save The World, Angello launched Size TV, which documented his professional and personal life for fans.

Swedish House Mafia performed their last concert at the Ultra Music Festival in 2013 before officially splitting up shortly after.

An Impressive Solo Career

After breaking up with Swedish House Mafia, Angello’s record label, Size Records, started distributing for Junior Sanchez’s label, Brobot Records.

He also launched X  — not affiliated with Elon Musk  — as a sister label that focused more on techno-house music.

The following year, he released the single “Payback” and gave away 100 first releases for free via Google Play as a promotion.

In 2016, he released his debut solo studio album, Wild Youth, which peaked at no. 4 on the US Top Electronic Albums chart.

Angelo started 2017 by performing at Coachella and kept his momentum by releasing six singles, including “Genesis,” “Inferno,” and “Paradiso.”

Getting Back Together

At Ultra Miami in 2018, Swedish House Mafia made their reunion on the final day, as the festival’s closing set.

Shortly after reuniting, Angello and Swedish House Mafia signed with Republic Records in 2021, dropping the album Paradise Again a few months later.

The same year, they released the single “Moth to a Flame” featuring the Weeknd, which debuted at no. 15 on the UK Singles Chart.

In 2022, Swedish House Mafia was credited for co-writing and co-producing “Sacrifice” and “How Do I Make You Love Me?” on the Weeknd’s album Dawn FM

Most recently, Angello performed with Swedish House Mafia at the opening ceremony of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Favorite Quotes From Steve Angello

“I think it’s important as an artist to just constantly beat yourself up. I know that sounds bizarre. I’ve done this for such a long time, and just doing what everybody else does, just playing the safe card, doesn’t always tickle me. It doesn’t excite me.” – Steve Angello

“It wasn’t that I was lost creatively; it was bigger than that. I’ve created music my whole life, and I’m trying to cut through this noise all the time. I play the biggest shows in the world. I have the most success I could ever possibly have. What’s next for me in life? Is this it? Should I just go and milk it and just make as much money as I can?” – Steve Angello

“You’re on there every day, people telling you you’re amazing, they love you, and all of a sudden you just completely pull the plug, it takes a lot, but at the same time, it’s worth it, because I don’t feel like doing what everyone else is doing.” – Steve Angello

“You’re supposed to create music that motivates people, inspires people, and says something. The music I grew up on, whether it was hip-hop or punk, everything used to be a revolution. It was a form of speech where you would express yourself culturally, and it could be so strong.” – Steve Angello
