Liz Murray's story reads like a Hollywood film, which is essentially what it is. Homeless to Harvard, a Lifetime Television production on Murray's life story, received three "Emmy Award" nominations.
Being the child of cocaine addicts in the Bronx, Murray faced many difficulties growing up. Food was never enough, the apartment was filthy, and drugs were all over the place.
By the time Murray was 16, her mother had passed away, and she was living on the streets of New York City as a high school dropout while sleeping in parks and riding the train all night. Murray believed her life might be much better despite the hardship she was experiencing.
Murray, who was driven to make a change in her life, graduated high school in just two years and, with the assistance of mentors and professors who were equally committed, received a full scholarship to Harvard University while camped out in parks and subway stations throughout New York City.
